| Since 1998 my hobby has been to
research the family history. My father, Knud Ejvind Fokking told me that he had an uncle
Valdemar in Iowa, USA. Unfortunately the family in Denmark had lost contact with him,
which he thought was rather sad. All the family in Denmark knew was that he had married a
Norwegian girl by the name of Oline and they thought there was four children, two boys and
two girls. To make a long story short I can tell you that within two weeks I found out that Valdemar died in 1968 in New Hartford, Butler County, Iowa and that Valdemar and his wife Oline Karlsdatter (from Bungum Farm in Vik parish, Norway) had five children: Anne Marie, Oline Walborg, Rosa Henrietta, Otto Carl and Hilda Elnora. Anne Marie (called Marie), Rosa og Otto is still alive. I found out that Rosa's was married Vantiger, which was a blessing - not many of those around in the States and having found her telephone number on the Internet I called her and we had many and long conversations. It had always been one of Rosa's wishes to meet her family in Denmark and therefore I suggested that she should come to Denmark and I would arrange a Family Reunion. We had had a Family Reunion 10 years ealier so it was by high time that the family met once again. Rosa and her daughter, Darcy, arrived in Denmark on the 23rd August and Jette Plesner-Jacobsen, my cousin offered Rosa and Darcy her hospality for their duration in Denmark, which Rosa was very greatful for. The Petersen family met at Skip Ohøj in Fakse Ladeplads for Danish Smørebrødsbord and after a lovely afternoon all those who felt like it drove to Roholte to see the little village were the Petersen's originated from. |
