Our treasured and remarkable mother, grammy, sister, auntie, neighbor and friend, passed away at Salt Lake Regional Hospital April 25, 2003 of complications associated with her age.
DeLora was born in Preston, ID, June 18, 1911 to wonderful parents Clar-ence Severin and Hannah Elizabeth Christensen Nielsen. She dutifully honored her parents as the first of five children. As a young woman, DeLora attended school in Preston and Salt Lake and graduated from LDS High School.
She married Richard William James in Sept 1939 and to this marriage were born two daughters, Carol and Rickell. His tragic death Dec 15, 1942 forever altered her life and she accepted and accomplished the challenge of rearing her daughters. She proudly worked at the University of Utah as an Administrative Assistant and retired in 1974 after 25 years. She found happiness again when she met and married Mack Ivan Bean in 1974; he too preceded her in death.
DeLora was a fiercely independent woman, who safely drove until she was 90; she lived alone in her own home until two weeks before her death. She maintained a beautiful yard, loved flowers, birds, reading, cooking and needlework. She was devoted to her daughters and her grandsons.
Survived by Carol (Jerry) Jenson, Rickell (Skeeter) James-Irish; cherished grandsons, Charles R., Timothy J., Benjamin K. King; sisters, Vaudis (Marvin) Riehl, Clothiel Butte; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by sister, Beverly Brinton; and brother, Wendell Nielsen.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers at Salt Lake Regional Hospital, particularly Sandy, Judee, and Doctors Gottlieb and Mintz for their compassionate care.
