Verda Roholt Weeks

GRACE - Verda Roholt Weeks, 88, of Grace, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2000, at Spring Creek Manor in Soda Springs.
She was born December 27, 1911, at Cleveland, Idaho, the daughter of Hans Jacob and Violet Ransom Roholt.

She married Richard (Bob) Weeks in Preston, Idaho, February 18, 1935; their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They spent their entire married life in Grace.

Verda had held positions in all the LDS Church auxiliaries. She was an active member of the American Legion auxiliary unit of Grace. She served four terms as president as well as several other offices. She served eight years on the staff of the Idaho Girls' State board, as well as president of the organization for two years.

She was an active member of the GFWC Idaho Federation of Women's Clubs. She was a past state vice president and held many offices on the local, state and district level. She was named "Idaho Woman of the Year" by the Idaho Federation of Women's Clubs in 1976. She was honored nationally and by the-then Gov. Samuelson for her work in conservation and the community improvement programs completed while she served as chairman.

She worked as a retail clerk to support her three young daughters while her husband served in World War II. She then worked in other retail stores until her retirement. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, spending time at the GFWC workshops and visiting their children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother.

She is survived by her husband "Bob" and three daughters, Janice (Kay) Egbert, Malad, Gloria (LeRoy) Harr, Twin Falls, and Lorraine (Bill) Meckem, Rio Verde, Ariz.; also four sisters, Yvonne Steinberg and Dixie Meigs, Twin Falls, Decca Harris and Joyce Fowler, Grace, Idaho; one brother, Verland Roholt, Soda Springs. She has 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Roma, and a brother, Elwood.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 24, 2000, at noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Don Grunig officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday evening, Feb. 23, at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Thursday at the Grace Stake Center from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
